The Beaney, Canterbury

The Beaney is a brilliant, family-friendly, FREE art gallery, library and exhibition centre situated in the heart of historic Canterbury – with fun and events throughout the year.

This award‑winning facility offers state‑of‑the‑art exhibition galleries, excellent educational spaces and a varied programme of events for all ages. A true gem for family fun throughout the seasons – from changing, family‑friendly exhibitions to popular themed trails every February half term and Halloween.

Visitors can enjoy a wide range of free kids’ activities, from dressing up to the interactive Explorer Points. There are fun activities for children in every gallery!

FOR HISTORY LOVERS

The museum is a cultural hub, home to an internationally significant collection made up of fascinating objects spanning subjects such as Ancient Egypt, the Anglo‑Saxons, sculpture, and fine and decorative art.

Be sure to explore the Smallfilms Gallery, which houses the real, much‑loved Bagpuss and Clangers among other original puppets and artwork on long‑term loan.

The museum also features two temporary exhibition spaces dedicated to innovative displays that explore contemporary issues for both local visitors and tourists, often showcasing national loans.

Admission is free of charge and includes access to nine galleries, Canterbury’s Visitor Information Centre and the Library. This award‑winning facility provides state‑of‑the‑art galleries, excellent educational facilities and a programme of events for all ages.
