The Hazlitt Theatre, Maidstone

We love The Hazlitt – a brilliant theatre for all the community. Set in the heart of Maidstone and attracting local and national productions all year round.

If you live in – or anywhere near – Maidstone, then chances are you’ll know the Hazlitt Theatre. With a history dating back to 1955, this accessible and inclusive theatre is at the heart of the community and hosts a huge variety of productions attracting local and national performers, musicians, comedians, tributes, families, local dance schools, tributes and amateur dramatics.

WEST END SHOWS ON THE DOORSTEP

With tickets at a fraction of the cost of the West End and with over 350 performances and events annually, it is no wonder the venue draws over 150,000 paying customers each year.

Situated in the centre of Maidstone, the Hazlitt is a traditional beautiful proscenium arch and auditorium and is named after William Hazlitt (a famous essayist and Maidstone resident, born in 1778).

The Theatre’s facilities include the Theatre (seating 353) and the studio for more intimate productions (seating 135). The Theatre is often also hired by local businesses and arts organisations as a venue for art exhibitions, events and conferences.

PANTO HIGHLIGHT EVERY YEAR

The Hazlitt is very much part of the local community, with their Hazlitt Institute running various activities, including its own youth theatre, dance company and choir, as well as hosting the Maidstone Film Society.

And every year it puts on a top notch panto that pulls in audiences from far and wide – oh yes they do! This year it’s Peter Pan and if you book before the end of August you can hook yourself a £1 saving off each ticket.

Plus, the central location of the Theatre means it is only a short stroll away from many local bars and restaurants to grab a quick pre or post show bite. A great local gem!
