WARNING: Contains seriously hot home inspiration…

Introducing your new design crush… Whether it’s just a bit of a spruce up or a top-to-toe makeover, Justine Hodgson-Barker and her team can create a space that looks effortlessly cool.

As the seasons change many of us turn our attention again to our interiors and finally getting round to those big refurb projects we put off during the summer months. But where to start and what experts to enlist?

Well, one of the great perks of this job is working with people whose talents I admire both personally and professionally. I’ve been obsessed with Justine Barker’s insta feed for years and have taken inspiration from it for my own home. So I’m so excited to introduce Justine and show you some of her projects.

Justine Hodgson-Barker is the founder of Barkerdesign and has been creating homes that reflect their owners’ passions and styles for more than 15 years. Whether you want just a bit of a spruce up or a top-to-toe makeover – Justine and her team can provide a bespoke package created for you. Her service starts from Mini 2hr Consultations (ask the expert kinda thing) to full house refurbs.

The spaces she creates are effortlessly cool with original, eclectic interiors that surpass trends – but also remain fully practical for family life and/or WFH. But hey, don’t take our word for it. A picture is worth a thousands words – so here’s some images for you to salivate over.

GEORGIAN VILLA (IN SEVENOAKS)

THE BRIEF

Justine says: ‘To create a “loved and lived in” family home here we mixed contemporary and classic with a distinctly French feel. Keeping the overall style calm and relaxed with all the practicalities needed for a growing family. We enjoyed curating pieces from different eras with effortless style and WOW features to bring an element of fun to this design too.’

THE MANOR HOUSE (IN EAST SUSSEX)

THE BRIEF

Justine says: ‘The Manor House brief called for a style that carefully curated furniture and objects from different eras to create an effortlessly cool vintage vibe. We allowed the bones of the building to lead with a timeless backdrop where we could and enhanced the space with statement artwork and objects, whilst linking through to more maximalist spaces where layered lighting created a magical fun atmosphere in the evening.’

Both the above projects are based on the Bespoke Full Interior Design Service.

As Justine explains: ‘This means we manage every element from concept to completion – including furniture layout, bespoke joinery drawings, lighting plans, and Schedule of Works for Contractor quotation. We then source all the furniture, fixtures and fittings, soft furnishings and accessories while also overseeing the implementation of works.’

But it doesn’t have to be the full works. For those just needing help with solving the odd design dilemma or two, Barkerdesign also offer a 2hr Mini-Consultation. This can cover anything from reviewing layouts, recommendations on furniture and finishes to advice on lighting design and trades. Or it could be simply providing project guidance when you don’t know where to start!
