Property Flirt: The townhouses at The Glade, Tunbridge Wells

Set in a prestigious enclave of Royal Tunbridge Wells, adjacent to The Spa Hotel, The Glade is for home movers who can’t wait to start living the ‘Wells life.

The Glade Tunbridge Wells property

Is it possible to live in a pristine new property, have bars, restaurants and boutiques within walking distance and still enjoy green space all around? It’s the big question Property Flirt sets out to answer.

Seclusion yet central

You’ve probably driven past the entrance to The Glade, not realising what is set back off of Langton Road. Follow a heavily wooded private lane and a collection of luxurious, three/four-bedroom townhouses – built and ready to move in to – awaits. Who knew? Property Flirt certainly didn’t.

The hugely popular spa town, Royal Tunbridge Wells, (or Tunny Wells to locals) consistently features as one of the Top 10 Kent towns in our Best Places To Live in Kent series.

In Tunny Wells you’ll find a rich pedigree of townhouses and The Glade is continuing where noted architect Decimus Burton left off. There’s something special about spreading out over numerous floors and at The Glade, each townhouse has four levels and oodles of square feet to play with.

Four floors of flexible living

The ground floor is the type of functional space families dream of. An integral garage, utility room, cloakroom and two storage cupboards keep everything that’s muddy, grubby and wet well away from the immaculate upper floors.

You’ll want to fill the first floor with the people you love. It’s a space for entertaining as much as relaxing, with an open plan kitchen/dining room – complete with French doors opening onto the private garden – and a separate, formal living room.

The second floor is home to three bedrooms, one of which is en-suite, and a family bathroom. Having looked at the generous floorplan, one of these bedrooms could easily be used as a home office, a dressing room or even a yoga studio – there’s the versatility that many busy households crave.

Ascend and you’re met by a jaw-dropping principal bedroom, which occupies the entire third floor. There’s enough distance between this room and the rest of the house to be called a true, tranquil escape. Fill the en-suite with Aesop and Elemis, dress the bed with the finest linens (from Tunbridge Wells’s Hoopers department store, naturally), outfit plan in the dressing area and place a chair in front of the Juliet balcony to enjoy the view.

Finishing touches are at the high-end of the specification spectrum. Three of the four bedrooms feature fitted wardrobes, while every garden is landscaped ready to enjoy. There’s also Quartz worktops, under floor heating, Porcelain tiles, a full suite of integrated kitchen appliances and electric garage doors.

A fast move awaits

There’s no waiting to start this new lifestyle. The townhouses at The Glade are built, beautifully specified, chain free and ready to buy now. A visit is a must to see the style and space on offer but be prepared to never want to leave!

Location, location, amazing location

The Glade nestles next door to The Spa Hotel, where you’ll find a health and leisure club. Members can be found in the heated indoor pool, in one of two state-of-the-art gymnasiums, relaxing in the steam rooms and saunas, or honing their serve on the floodlit, outdoor tennis court. And did we mention The Spa Hotel’s Orangery Restaurant, Zagatos Bar and reputation for exquisite afternoon teas? Membership is pretty irresistible.

Not that The Spa Hotel is the be all and end all for residents. The Glade sits atop Mount Ephraim – a distinguished residential quarter where the 250-acres of Tunbridge Wells Common unfurl to create an oasis of green in a vibrant town.

The verdant, undulating landscape is ideal for dog walking or a leisurely stroll. You’ll come across Wellington Rocks, Linden Park Cricket Club and eventually The Beacon on Tea Garden Lane – a lavish restaurant with sweeping views over the High Weald National Landscape (that’s the rebranded name for an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty).

Walk to all the hotspots

For a more buzzy vibe, The Pantiles is a 14 minute-walk from The Glade (or run if you want to bag a table at Michelin-acclaimed Atul Kochhar’s new restaurant, Essence). It joins existing gourmand hotspots Thackeray’s and The Ivy, alongside bars, cafés, patisseries including Gail’s and The Bicycle Bakery, and the annual jazz festival.

Also within a 20 minute walk are Tunbridge Wells High Street, Sainsburys and Tunbridge Wells train station, for direct journeys of less than an hour to London Bridge, Waterloo East, Charing Cross and Cannon Street.

It’s also worth noting The Glade puts families in a favourable position for the county’s respected grammar, independent and state schools.

When it comes to education – not only have you got incredible independent prep and senior schools in the area – there’s brilliant boys and girls grammar schools in Tunbridge Wells and nearby Tonbridge right on your doorstep. AND Ofsted-rated ‘Outstanding’ Primary and Secondary schools in the town. This is a family home dream!

Right then, that’s enough from us. Discuss, debate and deliberate over the price. And once you have a figure in mind, click here to see how close you get.
