<p>If your cultural calendar is craving something beyond another streaming binge, <a href="https://trinitytheatre.net/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Trinity Theatre</a>’s upcoming programme offers a reminder of the pleasure of going <em>out</em> again. From sharply observed comedy to internationally celebrated cinema, here are five events worth leaving the house for.</p>

<p>When a show sells out months in advance, an extra date is usually a good sign! Comedian Cally Beaton returns by popular demand with her acclaimed solo show exploring reinvention, confidence and the realities of midlife. Best known for appearances on QI and Live at the Apollo, Beaton blends storytelling and stand-up with extracts from her stereotype-smashing book of the same name. The evening concludes with a Q&amp;A and meet-and-greet, making this feel more like an intimate cultural event than a standard comedy gig.</p>

<p>You don’t need Wembley Stadium to experience the emotional uplift of a Coldplay concert. Tribute act A Head Full of Coldplay recreate the band’s signature spectacle, think lasers, confetti cannons and glowing Xylobands, inside Trinity’s atmospheric venue. Featuring favourites such as <em>Yellow</em>, <em>Paradise</em> and <em>The Scientist</em>, the show captures the communal joy that defines a Coldplay performance, scaled perfectly for a local night out that still feels epic.</p>

<p>For film lovers seeking something beyond the mainstream, Trinity’s cinema programmer highlight arrives with serious international acclaim. Winner of major prizes at Cannes and recipient of Golden Globe, BAFTA and Oscar nominations, <em>The Secret Agent</em> is a gripping political thriller set against the vibrant chaos of Carnival in Recife. Following a university professor drawn into surveillance and corruption while searching for his son, the film combines tension with richly layered storytelling, the kind of cinema best experienced on a big screen with an attentive audience.</p>

<p>National Theatre Live continues to bring world-class stage productions to regional audiences, and this revival of John Millington Synge’s darkly comic classic is a standout. Directed by Caitríona McLaughlin, the production stars Nicola Coughlan, alongside Éanna Hardwicke and Siobhán McSweeney. Filmed live at the National Theatre, the play’s tale of myth-making, identity and community feels as fresh and provocative as ever. Proof that classic drama still sparks modern conversation.</p>

<p>Looking for a half-term treat to suit the whole family? Trinity welcomes an inclusive stage adaptation of the beloved book by Julia Donaldson and Sara Ogilvie. Combining puppetry, music and sensory storytelling, <em>The Detective Dog</em> is designed for deaf and hearing audiences alike, featuring British Sign Language, creative captions and spoken English. It’s a thoughtful reminder that great theatre can be playful, accessible and genuinely shared across generations.</p>
