PICK OF THE WEEK
Heartstopper, Netflix, Thu 3 Oct
Warm and fuzzies incoming! The gorgeous LGBTQIA+ coming-of-age series based on Alice Oseman’s super popular YA novels returns this week and we are beyond excited. Not least because cast favourites Kit Conner, Joe Locke, Yasmin Finney, Kizzy Edgell, Corinna Brow, Rhea Norwood and William Gao are joined by none other than Jonathan Bailey (be still our beating hearts!). This season sees Charlie and Nick take things to the next level and Elle struggle with body dysphoria while the stress of exams and Uni choices loom. Though this season covers some of the tougher pressures of being a teen, Heartstopper remains a total joy to watch.
Industry, BBC One and iPlayer, Tue 1 Oct
It’s been a looong two years waiting for the UK’s answer to Succession to return to our screens, but if reports from across the pond are anything to go by (kudos if you’ve managed to avoid spoilers) season three of Industry has been worth the wait. The scandalous drama follows the scrappy traders working for Pierpoint, an investment bank in London, and all the backstabbing, stress and money that comes with it. Kit Harrington joins cast favourites Marisa Abela, Myha’la, Ken Leung and Harry Lawtey for what is set to be a pulpy, gritty and jaws on the floor watch. Gird your loins!
Living Every Second: The Kris Hallenga Story, BBC Two, Tue 1 Oct
It’s going to be hard not to shed a tear during this documentary which takes a look back at Kris Hallenga’s short but monumental life. After a stage four cancer diagnosis at just 23, Hallenga co-founded the charity CoppaFeel! which focuses on promoting early detection of breast cancer. Before Hallenga sadly lost her battle with cancer last year aged just 38, she invited cameras into her home to make this documentary. It features candid footage, personal recordings and interviews with friends and supporters including Dawn French and Fearne Cotton. Hallenga maybe gone, but she’ll certainly never be forgotten.
Chef’s Table: Noodles, Netflix, Wed 2 Oct
Talk about carb loading! The Emmy-nominated series returns and is serving up another treat this season focusing on the art of noodle-making. Evan Funke, Guirong Wei and Peppe Guida are among the world-renowned chefs sharing their culinary journeys in Chef’s Table and the delectable stories behind their signature noodle-based dishes. Quietly captivating and will no doubt fuel that pasta craving.
Where’s Wanda?, Apple TV+, Wed, 2 Oct
Fancy a new crime drama to get stuck into? Check out Where’s Wanda?. In this quirky German dark comedy, the parents of a teenage girl who mysteriously disappears, take matters into their own hands to find her. A desperate course of action which quickly spirals out of control when they decide to spy on their neighbours and unwittingly find out far more than they bargained for. Intriguing and amusing in equal measures and something true crime and murder mystery fans will love.
The Cleaner, BBC One, Fri 4 Oct
Greg Davies is back with his particular brand of silliness as Wicky Wickstead in The Cleaner. The sitcom known for its cracking cameos sees Steve Pemberton, Sharon Rooney, Ben Willbond, Chaneil Kular, Philippa Dunne, Paula Wilcox and Conleth Hill join Davies for more crime scene cleaning capers, like Wicky being jealous of the seemingly perfect life of a corpse he is mopping up after. An easy breezy watch to lead you into the weekend.
