It’s officially summer, and we’ve got a jam-packed month to celebrate! From outdoor theatre, festivals to jaw-dropping foodie events, it’s all happening in Kent.

FESTIVALS

Black Deer, Tunbridge Wells, Fri 14 – Sun 16 June

Haven’t got your tickets yet? What are you waiting for?! Huge artists Sheryl Crow, Joe Bonamassa and Rufus Wainwright are set to headline the UK Americana Festival this month. Yup, Black Deer returns to Eridge Park in Tunbridge Wells for a barn-storming three-day family fest of live music, late-night parties, vintage vehicles, outdoor pursuits and foodie delights. As per you can expect a stellar lineup of established and new Americana, country, blues, folk and bluegrass artists so step to it!

The Tunbridge Wells Fringe Festival, Sat 29 June – Sun 14 July

The vibrant annual Tunbridge Wells Fringe Festival is coming BACK! If you don’t know (where have you been?), it’s two weeks of jam-packed events featuring up-and-coming artists and performers in a range of venues across the town. This year will see almost 200 performances with award-winning comedy, classical theatre, head-banging bands and everything in between from magic to children’s workshops, cabaret, dance and drag. The tickets range from being completely free up to £20. Explore the whole programme and get booking asap.

The Festival Theatre at Hever Castle, NOW – Sun 1 Sep

How beautiful does that look? The Festival Theatre at Hever Castle keeps raging on. Set in the stunning gardens of Hever Castle this open air venue has music acts, operas, films, plays and family shows planned all summer long. This month will see performances HMS Pinafore (Sat 1 June) and The Carole King and James Taylor Story (Sun 16 June). See the full line-up and see what takes ya fancy.

Taste of Kent Food & Drink Festival, The Gulbenkian, Thurs 13 June

Foodies assemble! Don’t miss The Taste of Kent Food & Drink Festival is coming to The Gulbenkian in Canterbury for one-day only, showcasing over 50 amazing food and drink traders. Tickets are £6.

Medway Gaming Festival, The Historic Dockyard Chatham, Sat 15 – Sun 16 June

Get ready for an epic weekend of gaming madness at the iconic Historic Dockyard Chatham. Immerse yourself in this unforgettable weekend of gaming, technology and entertainment. Explore the latest in the gaming world with cutting-edge technology, VR experiences, military simulations, retro gaming stations and entertainment from cosplay, stage shows and live wrestling. Even get to meet famous guests such as Julian Seager from Netflix’s Vikings Valhalla and Josh Wichard, the voice of Tav 1 in the game Baldur’s Gate 3.

The Margate Reggae Festival, Dreamland, Sat 22 June

A celebration of all things reggae during the open-air weekender at Dreamland, Margate with live music from Julian Marley & The Uprising, Steel Pulse, Aswad, The Skints, Desmond Dekker’s Aces ft. Delroy Williams and many more. As well as bags of fun from theme park rides, roller disco, disco yoga to dance classes – you won’t want to miss this.

LIVE SHOWS & SCREENINGS

Edinburgh Fringe Preview, The Alex, Faversham, Sat 20 July

The Alex in Faversham are hosting an Edinburgh Fringe Preview from some of the most exciting comedians heading to the Festival this August. So catch them near you first with London-based stand-up comedian and writer, Bella Hull, one of the UK’s most exciting young comedians, regularly playing to sell-out crowds and on TV including BBC’s Stand Up for Live Comedy, ITV’s The Stand Up Sketch Show and Comedy Central Live.

Plus there’s powerhouse live act, Sara Barron, one of the fastest-rising comedians of her generation, since her 2018 debut at the Edinburgh Fringe, she’s starred on shows including Live at the Apollo (BBC), Would I Lie to You?(BBC) and Frankie Boyle’s New World Order (BBC). You won’t wanna miss this.

Music at Dreamland, Margate, Fri 7 June – Sun 1 Sep

Get music festival vibes at the stunning outdoor theatre, Dreamland with a fab variety of artists playing all summer long. Go see Simple Minds (Thurs 20 June), Craig David with special guest Wes Nelson (Fri 21 June), Sam Ryder (Thurs 27 June) and Deacon Blue (Fri 28 June).

FREE Outdoor Cinema, Folkestone Harbour Arm, Now – Sep

It’s getting to the time of year when outdoor cinema comes into its own, and we’re praying for dry weather for this lot at the fabulous Folkestone Harbour Arm. Catch fab cinema all month long with musical faves Footloose and Elvis paired with cult classics How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days and A Knight’s Tale. All screenings will take place at 7pm and are COMPLETELY FREE to enjoy.

Museum Movie Magic, Powell-Cotton Museum, Sat 29 & Sun 30 June

Lights, camera, action! Immerse yourself in this fun blockbuster experience, see Powell-Cotton Museum’s Kanga collection come to live through digital imaging from the University of Kent’s art students artists. As well as the student’s work, step back in time and immerse yourself in the world of Diana and Tony’s travels with their exclusive archival footage. Plus there’s film-themed games and even learn how to create a Victorian thaumatropes to make your images come alive. Definitely a fun-filled day! Adult tickets, £4 and children tickets, £3.

Dad’s Army Radio Show, EM Forster Theatre, Thurs 6 June

The boys are coming back to the EM Forster Theatre with three newly adapted episodes. Two actors, two microphones, over twenty-five characters – and lots of sound effects! The Dad’s Army Radio Show brings Perry and Croft’s classic BBC comedy to life in this highly acclaimed stage production. Three episodes of the popular sitcom – adapted for radio for the very first time – are hilariously and lovingly enacted on stage by two master performers – complete with sound effects, vintage music and all your favourite Perry and Croft characters and catchphrases. It might just transport you right back to Walmington.

Girls Night Out With Flat and the Curves, The Hazlitt Theatre, Weds 5 June

As seen on the BBC, brace yourself for this award-winning smash hit GIRLS NIGHT OUT with Flat and the Curves, the comedy girl band that’s currently leaving a trail of sequins across the UK. This powerhouse, glittery cabaret is a fierce blend of outrageous vocals and rip-roaring humour where no subject is off limits. It’s definitely a night to remember with your girls.

Wine Garden of Summer Celebration, Chilham Castle, Sat 8 June

It’s just under 2 weeks until the Wine Garden of England Summer Celebration! If you haven’t gotten your tickets yet (why not?), the summer celebration will be held at the beautiful Chilham Castle and you’ll be able to enjoy an afternoon sampling wines from 8 top Kent Wine producers like Balfour, Chapel Down, Gusbourne and Yotes Court plus Iive music and feast from many Kentish food truck offerings. Wine & Dine Evening, The Blue Room at Hoof & Hook, Tenterden, Thurs 6 June

Due of the success of their first ever ‘Wine & Dine Evenings, Hoof & Hook are back teaming up with a selection of the very best vineyards that Kent and Sussex have to offer. Coming this June they’ll be welcoming Wayfarer Wines to their restaurant in Tenterden who will be hosting the ultimate farm to table dining experience. Name a better duo than wine and roses, we’ll wait! Father’s Day never sounded so good than this gorgeous one-day event at Mount Ephraim Gardens near Faversham. Wander through the fragrant rose gardens, listen to live jazz music on the terrace and taste some English wine from the pop-up bar and enjoy cheeseboards, cream teas and handmade cakes from their Tea Room. Gusbourne Midsummer Barbecue for Two, Fri 21 June

Gusbourne’s Midsummer Barbecue makes a return this June and for £65 per 2 people, enjoy a special BBQ cooked by their chefs, share a bottle of the English Rosé 2023 as well as a 30min vineyard tour and live music. It doesn’t get more romantic than this.

Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea, Mereworth, Sun 16 June

This is no ordinary Afternoon Tea, oh no! Treat him this Father’s Day to a homemade Gentleman’s Afternoon Tea served with a selection of 3 locally brewed ales or a glass of award-winning sparkling wine from Mereworth. The menu consists of; a Gloucester Old Spot Sausage Roll, Bray’s Cottage Pork Pie, Pastrami Rueben, Short Rib Bun, Scone and Tiptree Jam, 80% Chocolate Brownie Bite and Oak Aged Gin Tiramisu. Wine Garden of England Summer BBQ, Boys Hall, Thurs 20 June

Attend this first-of-its-kind event at Boys Hall in Ashford where Firemade UK and chef Ana Ortiz will be cooking up a delicious feast using their impressive outdoor asado grills accompanied by an array of wines from some of the best wineries in Kent. Greek Wine Showcase, Macknade, Faversham, Thurs 13 June

Get ready to embark on a delightful journey through the vineyards of Greece as Macknade celebrates the launch of their new Greek wine range with Malty & Greek, the UK’s leading supplier of premium artisan Greek produce at this exclusive tasting event. James Donnelly Supper Club, Louie on Sea, Margate, Fri 14 June

A very exciting Supper Club is coming to Turner Contemporary as Louie On Sea presents Chef James Donnelly this month. James Donnelly’s cooking brings together the best of modern British cuisine at this restaurants in London’s Bermondsey & Spitalfields. But in this particular Supper Club, Chef James has created an all Kent menu, using locally sourced and sustainable produce from small producers, with optional paired local wines. Tickets are £60.

The Fordwich Arms x Nyetimber, Fri 14 June

For the ultimate foodie destination in Kent, look no further than The Fordwich Arms. This award-winning riverside restaurant makes the perfect venue for a celebration, anniversary or romantic treat. Plus this June they will be partnering up with Nyetimber for an exclusive lunch. The menu will be 6 courses and paired with Nyetimber, who will be showcasing their 1086 prestige cuvée 2013 and 1086 Prestige Cuvée Rosé 2013. Service Fleet Fayre, The WonderWorks, Margate, Sun 16 June
