Hever Castle: The best Autumn things to do
There’s loads to love about this 13-century stunner and childhood home of Anne Boleyn and it has everything you need for a fab day out! Here’s 5 reasons why it should be on your must-visit list this Autumn…
1. Haunted History Tours, Tues 29 – Thurs 31 Oct
Fancy some spooky fun for the grown-ups? Uncover spine tingling ghost stories and learn about the more gruesome side of history in a special after-dark haunted history tour of Hever Castle this Halloween. Follow your guide as they take you through the Castle’s most unfortunate owners, the gruesome fates that befell them, and those who might still be here in spirit. Tickets are £35 which includes a complimentary glass of Prosecco at the Moat Café or a soft drink alternative, setting the tone for a truly haunting experience. Whether it’s the atmospheric castle or the cold touch of an otherworldly presence, you won’t leave without a chill.
2. Halloween Half Term Fun, Sat 26 Oct – Sun 3 Nov
Treat your little ones to a spine-chilling visit to Hever Castle this October Half Term. Explore spooky pumpkin displays featuring creepy spiders, monsters, witches, and more. Put your detective skills to the test with a Halloween word puzzle for a chance to win a prize, and keep an eye out for infamous Halloween characters like Frankenstein and mischievous witches. Plus, unleash your creativity with themed craft sessions, where kids can make their own Halloween treat bags. It’s a week of eerie enchantment you won’t forget!
3. Falconry Experience, Weds 2 Oct – Weds 20 Nov
Got an animal lover in the family? Don’t miss their exciting falconry experiences this October, enjoy the two-hour show on selected dates and meet the residents of Willow Birds of Prey Centre as they demonstrate their amazing aerial acrobatic skills. Witness these majestic birds diving and swooping at close range, before safely handling hawks and owls yourself – the perfect photo opportunity!
4. Autumn Colour, Hever Castle, NOW – Fri 25 Oct
It’s our favourite time of the year when the air turns crisp, a rich display of autumn colour envelops the countryside and Hever Castle looks its best when the Boston Ivy turns a vivid shade of red. So pack your walking boots or wellies and head to Hever Castle for a good stomp around as now’s the perfect time to do it. Plus there’s exciting events to enjoy such as expert-led talks, Dahlia Tours, bulb planting masterclasses and much more.
5. Family play areas, Open now
Have you discovered Hever’s fabulous 100 year old Yew Maze? Find the eighty foot by eight foot maze next to the Castle Forecourt which remains as one of only a few traditionally designed mazes in the country. Open all year round, weather permitting – how long will it take you to get out?
We also love the elaborate play areas which include Acorn Dell, a natural playground for toddlers and children up to seven years old, or for older children there’s the brilliantly interactive fort, called Tudor Towers, an adventure playground aimed at children 7-14 years old. These are superb for getting their imagination going and inspiring interactive play.
