<p>The <a href="https://www.newflyinghorsewye.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">New Flying Horse</a> is Wye&#8217;s classic country pub, with roaring fires in cooler months and a brilliant beer garden for warmer weather. The pizza oven is perfect for kids and there&#8217;s good Sunday Lunch, Light Lunch and Children&#8217;s Menu options.</p>

<p>Wye stands on the Pilgrims&#8217; Way and has gained a reputation as a hiker&#8217;s paradise. Well known for its picture-perfect location along the hillside of the Kent Downs, and numerous nature trails, it&#8217;s an ideal spot to get in touch with your green side.</p>



<p>Not too far from Wye are a couple of Muddy favourite retreats. Plus, regular events include the twice-monthly Farmers’ Market, showcasing local produce and crafts by its picturesque green.</p>

<p>Within a short drive you&#8217;ll discover <a href="https://www.rarebreeds.org.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Rare Breeds Centre</a> &#8211; a family favourite for animal encounters and nature trails, which lies just under 10 miles away. There&#8217;s also the nearby <a href="https://www.champneys.com/hotels/eastwell-manor.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Eastwell Manor</a>, a historic country estate turned luxury hotel and spa, set in parkland with a golf course, indoor pool and treatments galore. Plus gorgeous boutique hotel, <a href="https://www.boys-hall.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Boys Hall</a>, a restored 17th-century manor with a highly regarded restaurant and just nine rooms, it&#8217;s a hidden luxe escape.</p>



<p>Also close by is the estate of <a href="https://www.godmershamheritage.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Godmersham Park</a>, eight miles southwest of Canterbury, once owned by Jane Austen’s brother Edward; the house inspired settings in Austen novels and is occasionally open for guided walks and literary tours.</p>

<p>The Wye Arts Association &amp; Cinema Club is at the heart of the village&#8217;s cultural life, hosting monthly film screenings that range from indie releases to acclaimed international cinema, all in the setting of the Village Hall. It also supports concerts and exhibitions throughout the year, often spotlighting local artists and musicians.</p>



<p>For larger-scale entertainment, the nearby <a href="https://thegulbenkian.co.uk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Gulbenkian Arts Centre</a> in Canterbury is such a gem. It offers a diverse year-round programme of professional theatre, cinema, live music, stand-up comedy, dance, talks and family-friendly performances. </p>

<p>Wye is well-served for early‑years care, with Wye Under Fives Pre-School at the Village Hall on Bridge Street (Ofsted-rated “Good&#8221;) offering welcoming, sessional care for ages 2–5 with a focus on creative play and outdoor learning. </p>



<p>For full‑day and term‑time nurseries, families can choose from several excellent options nearby in Ashford and Canterbury, including Great Chart and Singleton Pre-School (Outstanding), D-Dee’s Day Nursery in Boughton-under-Blean (Outstanding), and Garden Cottage Nursery at Kent College, Harbledown (Outstanding). These provide a mix of flexible care, Montessori or forest-school-inspired environments, all within a 15–20 minute drive of Wye.</p>

<p>The village has a thriving school, Lady Joanna Thornhill Primary, which is rated Outstanding in 4 out of 5 of the performance categories (and Good in the other). There&#8217;s also Wye School, a secondary school with a Sixth Form, which is Ofsted-rated &#8216;Good&#8217;. For grammars, you have the schools in Ashford or Canterbury.</p>



<p>If you are looking at the private route, you have <a href="https://www.springgroveschool.co.uk" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Spring Grove School</a> in Wye itself, a nurturing all-rounder for children aged 2 to 11 years. <h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-best-kept-secret">BEST KEPT SECRET</h2>



<p>Way back in 1998 <em>Coldplay</em> performed at Wye Farming College during the end-of-year ball (the college is affiliated with UCL where the band all studied). In footage that has since gone viral, a 22-year-old Chris Martin, predicted the band&#8217;s future success at the tender age of 22, when <em>Coldplay</em> was just a year old. And boy was he right.</p>



<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-commute">COMMUTE</h2>



<p>Wye has a train station and is one stop (just over 5 mins) into Ashford International Station which is well-known for its regular high-speed services into London (you can be at St Pancras in only 38 mins on the high-speed train).</p>



<p>And in the other direction, driving to France couldn’t be easier – with the Channel Tunnel around 15 mins away. Or if you want to staycay, the same short distance away, the Kent coast surrounds you in several directions – Whitstable, Sandwich, Sandgate, Broadstairs, Deal… Take your pick!</p>
