10 things to do at the Goodwood Revival
Dress up to the nines at the glamourous Goodwood Revival, a three-day celebration of the halcyon days of motor racing and vintage fashion
Each September, the historic Goodwood Motor Circuit transforms into an all-out nostalgic celebration of motorsport and fashion’s hey-day, filled with rare and priceless cars driven by champions past and present. And oh my goodness – the revival fashion.
This year, Goodwood Revival takes place on Fri 16 – Sun 18 September. Saturday has already sold out, so if you haven’t already booked, be quick to snag one of the last tickets for Friday or Sunday. Here’s our top things to do when you get here.
1/ Look the part. It’s all about vintage fashion and second-hand style. Whether you’re feeling a race car driver with head scarf look, channelling ‘Duchess driven by her chauffeur’ or vibe the swinging 60s look – a roll-neck, sleeveless top, capri trousers with bug-eyed shades or fancy a man in uniform – plan ahead with Goodwood Revival’s handy his and hers guide on what to wear. You can also rock the retro look via the Goodwood Revival shop (loving the denim dungarees). Follow @goodwoodrevival for inspo, then snap a selfie and tag to keep up with the Joneses. The Instagram opportunities here will give your friends FOMO at every turn.
2/ Glam up with a retro super-stylist. Book yourself a hair or makeup appointment at an onsite salon, where ladies can be beautified at Betty’s Salons and gents are groomed at the Goodwood Barbers, found next to Earls Court.
3/ Be in it to win it. Style sorted? Ready to rock? Then enter the Best Dressed Competition and strut your stuff at the 3pm parade, also a chance to check out the other ensembles on show. Note: the fashion police are real here and will be out in force, picking out people looking fabulous.
4/ Get your groove on. Grab a dancing partner, don your pedal pushers and bobby socks and swirl around to the jitterbug at the ‘Over the Road’ area, where the dancing continues long after the racing is over on track.
5/ Find vintage nirvana at the new Revive & Thrive Village. As even royalty chimes with the revival mantra, this year’s superb Goodwood Revival Revive & Thrive Village has workshops, demonstrations, exhibitions, and talks celebrating the joys of vintage and sharing ways to reuse, repair and repurpose pre-loved belongings.
6/ Spot a celebrity driver. Flag down famous faces from the motor sport world – you can keep ahead with a sneaky follow of Goodwood Revival on Facebook and Instagram. And well worth keeping track of the who’s who of racing online, too. Psst – rumour has it that Jenson Button will deffo be back in the driving seat for Goodwood Revival 2022.
7/ Eat, drink and be merry. Whether you want a seat at the Commanding Officers’ table, to enjoy a garden party at The Barracks, or peer down at the crowds from the Salvadori Pavilions, there’s a table to suit, pre-bookable in the hospitality section of the site. There’s also festi-food stands all around the site offering everything from artisan flapjacks to crepes, and cheese on toast to fresh focaccia sandwiches, along with lashings of Pimm’s.
8/ Start your engines. Well, we are at Goodwood! Highlights for Goodwood Revival 2022 include the first ever all-MG B race, as well as staples like the RAC TT Celebration and the Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy, featuring Formula 1 Champion Jenson Button. And racing into its tenth year, the super-cute Settrington Cup will take place on Sat 17 and Sun 18 September. Kids age 4 and 11 years old, get behind the wheel of their Austin J40 pedal cars and proceed at full pelt down the Pit Lane Straight. And what nipper wouldn’t like that?!
9/ Come Fly with Me… Take a scenic flight over the Revival and buzz round in a helicopter, prices from £55. Or keep your feet firmly on the ground and admire rarely seen machines from the history of aviation and pre-1966 aircraft at Bonham’s Freddie March Spirit of Aviation at the ‘concours d’elegance’.
10/ Go ‘off track’ and experience the fun of the fairground on nostalgic rides, bar hop around the cocktail bars and G&T marquee. Polish up your lindy hop skills, admire classic cars on display or catch a flick at the Revival Cinema presented by Sky Cinema.
Ready for Revival? Then get booking! Tickets from £64, kids go free (12s and under) and Young People (13-21 years) go half price. Only tickets for Friday 16 and Sunday 18 September remain at: goodwood.com/motorsport/goodwood-revival.
