It’s assured that every part of this hotel will have you swooning. From the moment you arrive, you’re greeted by the stunning Georgian architecture and beautiful grounds. Inside you’ll find a grand staircase at the heart of the manor house and beautiful original features in each of the bedrooms.

DINING

There’s also the award-winning restaurant which has cemented Chilston Park’s status as the ideal setting for a country break, a romantic wedding or an inspiring meeting venue. Did you know it’s dog-friendly too?

Culpeper’s Restaurant is housed in the original dining room which retains a wealth of original features including elegant sash windows, a decorative ceiling and fireplace, and boasts wonderful views of the grounds. It’s earned 2 AA Rosettes for its vibrant seasonal dishes finished with the creative flair of Head Chef, Ali Altuntas.

The menu is modern British with a range of seasonal dishes inspired by local ingredients including Caldecott Farm chicken and South Coast turbot. Many of the ingredients used are sourced locally from selected producers and farmers to create food of the highest quality while delivering an authentic dining experience.

For something more classic, a selection of ‘Hand Picked Favourites’ include chargrilled ribeye steak and Kentish beer-battered fish and chips – there’s plenty of veggie options too.

THE VIBE

Afternoon tea at Chilston Park is a quintessential British experience that should not be missed. Served in the hotel’s elegant Marble Lounge from 12:30 – 3:30pm. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, with plush seating and lovely views of the manicured gardens.

It’s wonderful to see they cater to a wide range of dietary needs, including vegan and gluten-free options. The selection of loose-leaf teas is impressive, with an option to elevate the experience with a glass of Champagne. For families, there’s even a dedicated Children’s Afternoon Tea, ensuring everyone in the gang can enjoy this special treat.

Recently, I had the pleasure of enjoying an afternoon tea followed by an overnight stay, and it was truly a treat for the senses. Let’s dive in.

AFTERNOON TEA

We began tucking into our tiered cake stand laden with an assortment of delicate finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones, and an array of pastries and cakes that looked almost too good to eat. The sandwiches were a delightful mix of traditional fillings and each bite was fresh and flavourful.

Next came the scones, which were simply divine and served with clotted cream and strawberry jam, an indulgent combination that epitomises the classic afternoon tea experience. Finally (and we barely had any room left!) we indulged in the sweet treats, all washed down by English Breakfast Tea.

Whether you are hosting a baby shower for your favourite mum-to-be or marking another trip around the sun, Chilston Park’s Afternoon Tea is the perfect place to celebrate.

PILLOW TALK

After our delightful afternoon tea, we retired upstairs to our room via the grand staircase – what an entrance! We stayed in the Oriental Room which was spacious and beautifully decorated, filled with curios from Asia. The antique furniture, fabrics and intricate ceiling created the perfect space for relaxation and a great night’s sleep.

The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the room was equipped with all the amenities you could wish for – a TV, complimentary Wi-Fi, and a well-stocked tea and coffee station. The large windows overlooked the expansive gardens, providing a lovely tranquil view.

In the morning, we enjoyed a hearty breakfast in Culpeper’s restaurant, with options ranging from a full English breakfast to avocado on sourdough (our personal choice) and there were continental options available like cereals, fresh fruit, pastries and natural yoghurt. The quality of the food was exceptional, and the service was attentive.

If you’re looking for a charming place to enjoy afternoon tea and/or a luxurious bed and breakfast experience, Chilston Park Hotel is a hidden gem that promises to impress.

ANYTHING ELSE?

Chilston Park’s location offers access to so many nearby things to do. Embark on a day of discovery with historical buildings such as Leeds Castle and Penshurst Place just a short journey away. For the gin enthusiasts, a visit to either the Anno or Copper Rivet distilleries is a must, whilst Chapel Down vineyard offers a fantastic wine-tasting experience.

THE MUDDY VERDICT

GOOD FOR? If you love classic British charm, Chilston Park’s stately ambience and period decor provide a warm, timeless atmosphere. It’s perfect for a romantic or girlie trip away and it’s even a welcoming choice for families and your furry friends.

NOT FOR? If you prefer sleek and contemporary settings – this isn’t for you! With its tranquil countryside setting, Chilston Park is ideal for unwinding but not as suitable for those looking for a bustling location close to major attractions.
