3 new online bridal collections
Here comes the bride... and she's got next-day delivery! First time online collections from the likes of Matches, Kitri and even a recently revitalised Warehouse that will be right up your aisle.
We’re all more likely to buy occasion wear online these days (who hasn’t gone on an e-spree ahead of a big event?), and now brides are jumping on the bandwagon and picking up their wedding dresses online too. If the idea of visiting a bridal boutique to shop for a traditional wedding gown brings you out in hives, then these three bridal collections will be right up your aisle.
For the truly fashion-forward (and the bank balance to match), Matchesfashion.com has launched its brand new bridal edit today, with over 250 pieces created by designers such as Christopher Kane, Erdem, Rodarte and Vivienne Westwood. While the price tag might match the average wedding dress price, this is no safe collection of fairytale, frothy ballgowns. There are some seriously out-there styles, from chainmail mini dresses to crystal-embellished tuxedos and brocade midis trimmed with ostrich feathers.
If you’re not quite that brave, there’s a wealth of slightly more classic styles too, but each with their own twist. We love the slinky Rat & Boa maxi in leopard-print devoré-velvet (a snip at just £250), Emilia Wickstead’s seersucker gown with voluminous sleeves and 60s-inspired wide belt, and Christopher Kane’s crystal-beaded cashmere jumper (ideal for pairing with a satin maxi skirt).
Already got a dress (or just fancy some new trinkets)? Good news, there are some bloody beautiful accessories too, including shoes, jewellery, headpieces by Stephen Jones (ones of his very few online collaborations) and bags – race you to the Dolce & Gabanna floral perspex number.
Rodarte tiered tulle skirt, £3,120
Christopher Kane sweater, £795
Rat & Boa maxi dress, £250
Dolce & Gabanna bag, £2,850
One of our new favourite fash brands, Kitri has only been around since 2017, but has been doing a roaring trade in gorgeous yet affordable designs since then. Now, they’re pushing the boat out with one of their most-requested lines – a nine-piece capsule collection of dresses and jumpsuits aimed at the modern bride.
“There are a lot of events surrounding the wedding these days – the engagement party, the church, the town hall, dinner before, brunch after,” says Haeni Kim, the label’s uber-stylish founder. “We wanted to cater to brides who weren’t necessarily looking for ‘the gown’ but still wanted to look and feel special without spending a fortune.”
It may be a capsule collection, but there’s a lot to enjoy here, from the 70-inspired Kahlo jumpsuit in ivory lace to the universally flattering Cassat midi dress in rose jacquard. We’re big fans of the high neck Carrington smock dress, with the delicate blue daisy print making for an easy sartorial nod to your ‘something blue’. Plus, with prices between £195 and £245, these gowns are bob on for a budget-conscious bride (more money to spend on the honeymoon!).
Kahlo Lace Jumpsuit, £245
Arbus Jacquard Jumpsuit, £245
Chagall Lace Midi Dress, £215
High-street hot shot Warehouse has long been a go-to for bridesmaid dresses thanks to their pastel palettes and variety of silhouettes, but did you know that you can pick up a wedding dress there for under £90? That’s an absolute bargain in our books -and even if you’d prefer something a little more formal for the ceremony, why not do a Meghan and slip into something a little more slinky for the reception?
These styles are ideal if ‘simplicity’ is your middle name, as none of them are too flouncy or fussy. Plus, they’re ideal for showing a little skin – the cowl-back, satin slip and column styles all have an exposed back, so you may want to pick up a body scrub ahead of the big day (hey, with prices like these, you could splash out on an exfoliating spa treatment and still have change). We also love the blossom-patterned angel-wing style for mixing up plain white a little – and it’s easy-peasy to wear after the big day (perhaps on a sunny honeymoon).
Satin cami dress, £85
Cowl back dress, £89
Column dress, £85
Angel sleeve dress, £85
