<p>Wander and take <a href="https://www.hevercastle.co.uk/hever-attractions/hever-lake/lake-walk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lake Walk</a>, 1 hour 20 mins at a leisurely pace which includes New Smugglers Way and Anne of Cleves Bower House. Perfect to see daffodils, wild garlic in the spring and meadow flowers in the summer.</p>

<p>Take a peaceful walk around the lake and along the way see bird boxes that are home to owls, blue tits, robins and woodpeckers and look out for kingfishers, swans, herons and crested grebes on the lake itself. At the foot of the lake there are three second world war pill boxes built to defend a key crossing point on the River Eden. </p>

<p>Along Lake Walk, you&#8217;ll find Woodland Walk and an obstacle course aimed at 4-8 year olds with plenty of natural activities designed to spark the imagination and burn off some energy. Let the kids tackle wooden obstacles, balance and climb over logs and stepping stones, scale rope ladders and explore a den.</p>



<p>Everything has been created from materials already in the woods from fallen or cut down trees and the paths are made from woodchip from the trees.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s also impossible to miss the array of beautiful daffodils that are currently in bloom and not forgetting the gorgeous bluebells in May. We&#8217;ve just found out that Hever Castle have planted an extra 3,000 daffodils so it&#8217;ll be bigger and better than ever!</p>

<p>Follow the footsteps of the Astors and take the walk they took to Church Gill and the dog graves on Sunday Walk.</p>



<p>Sunday Walk and the rediscovered Church Gill Walk were created by William Waldorf Astor in a very different style to the formal areas of the Gardens. They follow the meandering stream in a circular walk that leads to Hever Church and would have been the route the family took to church each Sunday.</p>

<p>Starting at the Dog Graves near the Gift Shop, Sunday Walk has long been popular with visitors looking for a peaceful retreat away from the main areas of garden. It is planted with unusual shrubs and ferns, gunnera, mock oranges and candelabra primula, with marginal planting along the stream, all complementing Astor’s original rhododendrons.</p>

<p>If you&#8217;re after a short stroll, don&#8217;t miss The Italian Gardens. Covering four acres, the long sweeping lawns and tall clipped yew hedges form the central area of this magnificent garden, bordered by two twelve foot high walls made from local stone. </p>

<p>On the north side is the Pompeiian Wall where you&#8217;ll find small bays showcasing antiquities in stone and marble enveloped with shrubs and climbing plants. </p>



<p>Along the south side runs the Pergola Walk with its shaded grottoes planted with ferns and moisture loving plants. Hidden in its centre behind a tall hedge lies the Sunken Garden, an oasis of peace and quiet. </p>

<p>The impressive Loggia at the lake end of the garden is flanked by pillared colonnades and descends by balustrade steps to the piazza below with its classical sculpture inspired by the Trevi Fountain in Rome.</p>

<p>Got time for a long stomp? Try the <a href="https://www.visitedenbridge.com/walks/hever-chiddingstone-walk/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Hever &amp; Chiddingstone walk</a>, it&#8217;s about 6.5 miles (10.5 km) and takes about 3 hours to complete with 3 stiles. It begins in the centre of Edenbridge, with its pubs and variety of places in which to eat, and travels east towards the pretty villages of Hever and Chiddingstone, following the path of the Eden Valley Walk.</p>



<p>Throughout the valley there are many Kentish towns and villages waiting to be explored such as Chiddingstone, Edenbridge, Hever and Penshurst, all rich in heritage with many stories to tell. You&#8217;ll discover medieval buildings, coaching inns, courtyards, gardens and historic churches. It&#8217;s a good&#8217;un!</p>
