Hotting up! Best new hotels for 2022
Introducing the hottest new hotel openings around the world. Warning: contains images of sexy bedrooms, turquoise seas and infinity pools.
If you’re itching for an overseas adventure it’s time to pack your suitcase because there are so many exciting new hotels opening around the world right now. From a converted townhouse in Lisbon to a new wellbeing concept on a private island in the Maldives, here’s where we’d like to be checking into in 2022.
LUX* Grand Baie, Mauritius
An infinity pool with a swing is enough of a sell for Muddy, but if you really need to know more before you book we can reveal this is the Indian Ocean island’s most talked about new resort after opening its doors in December. It’s a Jean-Francois Adam and Kelly Hoppen design collaboration, so expect contemporary villas with tropical touches, and the spa and fitness centre has four floors dedicated to mind and body. Best of all though is Bisou, the rooftop restaurant, bar and infinity pool with that Instagrammable swing *sigh*.
Aman, New York
Swimming in a rooftop pool overlooking Manhattan sounds like a fantasy but thanks to Aman’s latest hotel opening in Spring you can make it a reality. Hero project of designer Jean-Michel Gathy (he’s worked with loads of top-tier hotels from the Four Season to One & Only), the Aman lies in the Crown Building on the corner of 5th Avenue and Central Park, ie this is pretty much the best spot in the city. Time to channel your inner Carrie Bradshaw and book one of the 83 rooms and suites, sip a cosmo at the 10th floor bar, take a dip, tuck into Italian at Arva restaurant then descend to the basement club for late-night Jazz.
Sublime Lisboa, Portugal
City break alert! Portugal’s capital just got a little bit cooler with the opening of this stylish hotel in a converted 20th Century townhouse in the beautiful and historic Amoreiras neighbourhood. With just 15 individually designed rooms and suites it’s boutique chic all the way and Davvero Restaurant and bar promises to be a total scene, particularly its al fresco pavement tables ideal for cocktail-sipping while people-watching.
Four Seasons Resort Tamarindo, Mexico
The view’s not bad at this new resort if you happen to like white sand beaches, palms, islands and blue sky, which we do ALOT. Set to open early this year on the Costa Alegre (Joy Coast), we would definitely feel joy if we were lying on one of those loungers sipping a strong margarita and gazing at the pristine ocean and jungle at sunset…It’s a perfect fly and flop destination, with three pools, beach bar and grill, spa in a tropical forest and faff-free travel to get there – you don’t need a PCR test to enter Mexico if you’re double-vaxxed.
Brown Beach Corinthia, Greece
This curvaceous beauty’s opening in March on the Corinthia Coast and aiming to appeal to adults (166 cool rooms, spa, great food) and kids (play park, pools, lots of watersports). Definitely one for our ‘dream family places we’d like to visit in 2022 please’ hot list.
Brown Beach Resort’s only an hour from Athens, so before you fly home treat yourself to a night at the new xenodoceio Milos hotel opening this month in the city’s downtown area. It’s the first luxury hotel of Greek restaurant estiatorio Milos, so expect food as tasteful as the decor.
Six Senses Fort Barwara, India
Originally owned by the Rajasthani royal family, this just-opened converted 14th-Century fort is so spectacular it would definitely get their seal of approval. Naturally there’s a sensational Six Senses Spa offering ancient Indian treatments, including Ayurveda, plus an Alchemy Workshop where you learn to make spells (joke, guests actually get to create potions to cure their own ailments), plus fire meditation and sunset yoga too. Suite are palatial – think outdoor showers and private gardens – but you’ll want to drag yourself out of bed because just thirty minutes away is Ranthambore National Park Royal where you can go on a tiger safari.
Little House West Hollywood, LA
West Hollywood’s our fave area of LA so we’re excited to hear Soho House’s latest outpost is going to be opening there – a 34-bedroom retreat close to Sunset Boulevard no less. With Hollywood Hills views from the rooftop, a greenery-filled courtyard bar and potential celebrity sightings a plenty, we’re going to be California dreaming until the spring opening.
JOALI Being, Maldives
A new wellbeing retreat on a private island? Sign us up now! JOALI’s a 40-minute seaplane transfer from Malé airport and invites guests on a ‘transformative journey’, though tbh we’d probably feel 100 x better just to be in that pool. A team of experts put together a wellness programme’s to cater specifically to your needs, from hormone balancing or weight loss to sleep therapy and immune boosting. Sounds like just the MOT we need,
Hotel La Palma, Capri
Oetker Collection’s currently hard at work transforming what was Capri’s first hotel (built in 1822) to its former glory, where celebs and royalty used to flock. Muddy’s looking forward to living la doce vita and visiting this super glam hot spot when it opens in the summer, popping on some over-sized sunnies to hang out in the rooftop restaurant, beach club and spa.
