<p>First we had Book Club &#8211; fuelled by a thirst for rosé, oops we mean reading, and to discuss it with like-minded women. Now we hear our friends are forming their own Film Club. So as we hit awards season (the Golden Globes have recently been awarded and the Oscar Nominations were announced this week) here are the movies to take time out to watch. </p>



<p>Whether you&#8217;re a full-time parent, working, not working or hybrid working &#8211; we all need to play hooky every now and then. And when you do we highly recommend heading to <a href="https://www.trinitytheatre.net" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Trinity Theatre</a>, our favourite vibrant arts venue in the centre of Tunbridge Wells where the very best <a href="https://www.trinitytheatre.net/event-category/film-tunbridge-wells" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">newly released films</a> are screened daily. <p>A musical biopic charting the rise and fall of Whitney Houston &#8211; one of the most recognisable voices of a generation, if not all time.&nbsp;While her story ends with tragedy and the film does not shy away from those themes, it is the brainchild of Houston’s estate, which includes her sister-in-law and executor Pat Houston, as well as the company that controls key parts of her musical rights, Primary Wave, and the man who signed, and some say, shaped her, Clive Davis.&nbsp;So not surprisingly then &#8211; and refreshingly &#8211; the primary goal here is a celebration of everything she achieved. </p>

<p>Set in 1950s London, a veteran civil servant receives a medical diagnosis that inspires him to move to the south coast and cram some fun into his remaining days. He meets a sunny young female colleague who seems to have the pep that had previously escaped him.&nbsp;Mr. Williams is played by Bill Nighy, who is the master of gloomy restraint executed with a subtle emotional punch. Plus the supporting cast that includes Tom Burke playing a rakish Mr Sutherland (you&#8217;ll know him as TV detective Cormoran Strike) and rising star Aimee Lou Wood (regular of the hit Netflix series&nbsp;<em>Sex Education</em>), making this one hard to resist.</p>

<p>A US drama in which a pair of journalists (played by Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan) discover a trail of sexual assaults as they work on a story about the film producer, Harvey Weinstein.&nbsp;The title takes the second half of the famous phrase habitually used to dismiss rape allegations as hearsay – “he said, she said” – and in doing so restores the importance of women’s testimony. A tense and timely look at power structures and the dogged pursuit of truth.</p>

<p>Renowned musician Lydia Tár is days away from recording the symphony that will elevate her career in this dark, atmospheric and (yes) slightly bonkers psychodrama starring Cate Blanchett as Lydia Tár, the orchestra conductor starting to unravel and unhinge.&nbsp;The film has courted controversy and has divided audiences &#8211; but it&#8217;s certainly a grown-up, gripping drama that you can&#8217;t turn away from. And certainly no one will disagree with the exceptional performance put in by Blanchett who is the only person that could carry off this role &#8211; totally spellbinding and worthy of the nominations.</p>

Based on the best-selling book <em>The Silent Twins</em>, the film stars Letitia Wright and Tamara Lawrance.&nbsp;A well-acted, disturbing drama this is a powerful story of Welsh sisters who created an imaginary world of their own and experienced a shared isolation from the real world around them.</p>
